Of Alexanders and Albums - A Brief Interview with...
I’ve developed a bit of an addiction to Kickstarter, a habit which threatens to consume my funds as quickly as concerts and album-purchases. Pretty soon I suppose I’ll have to start eating jewel cases for lunch. They’re probably about as nutritious as ramen, all things considered.
Anyway, while browsing Kickstarter some weeks ago, I paused on Alex Thompson’s...

Kamelot w/ Alestorm, Blackguard, The Agonist, and...
Strange, I know, a review of a metal concert on a tumblr that posts primarily indie music? To tell you the truth, I’m actually an enormous fan of certain metal bands; I was practically raised by an older brother 20 years my senior with long hair and a penchant for the harder stuff. Iron Maiden’s album Powerslave was my favorite thing to listen to at age ten or so, and I played Chad’s ...

“Be Brave” - My Brightest Diamond
I can thank The Decemberists for introducing me to Shara Worden on their album The Hazards of Love (she guested as the voice of the woodland queen), and also ought to apologize in the same breath because I promptly ditched them in favor of her band, My Brightest Diamond. Worden has some astoundingly powerful pipes - a sort of blues-operatic diva voice...

Tori Amos - Night Of Hunters [Album Stream] →
Tori Amos new album, Night of Hunters, is currently available to stream via NPR’s First Listen (okay, so it’s been there for a week already, I’m just quite slow at getting around to listening to some things, but I was savoring it, I tell you). Anyway, it’s utterly sublime. LISTEN TO IT RIGHT NOW.

The Doozies - The Doozies [Album Stream] →
Started listening to these guys on a bit of whim tonight after muddling my way through the beginning of Alice: Madness Returns, and then I just kept listening. Catchy low-fi fuzz and buzz, with a nice punk-lite sort of sensibility. The entire album is available to stream via bandcamp and free to download. So why not give it a go?

Fleet Foxes w/ The Walkmen @ The Paramount Theatre...
Fleet Foxes played Seattle’s Paramount Theatre for two nights in a row this last week, and I managed to snag tickets to the Wednesday performance. (Which was so much cooler anyhow, because the Tuesday performance was solely reserved seating, but on Wednesday I could press my nose up to the stage if I so desired. Or I could have in theory, if it hadn’t been for those irritating...

“Amanaemonesia” - Chairlift
Really fun choreography in this by Caroline Polachek (Chairlift frontwoman, dancer in the video, and co-director). It would be somewhat silly, if it weren’t so damn talented as well.
As my boyfriend pointed out, peculiar dancing also always brings to mind Ryan Adams’ “Halloweenhead.”

Laura Marling - A Creature I Don't Know [Album... →
Laura Marling’s third album is now available to stream via The Guardian. A bit darker than her previous work for the most part, but still very much in the folksy-country vein. I highly recommend listening to “The Beast” in particular.

Help The Tins!
These fine young gentlemen - Dave Muntner, Adam Putzer, and Mike Santillo - are The Tins. They’re a pop-rock trio from upstate New York, and I only found out about them a few months ago, but when I did, I had that peculiar squished feeling of having previously lived under a rock.
The Tins are bafflingly good, and by “bafflingly,” I mean that I have no idea why they...
