Portrait

Starving artist. Literary genius. Weasel under the cocktail cabinet.

In other words, the inimitable Tess Grover.

“Never Enough” - The Gunfighters

Dude, I know one of the guitarists from this band. Kid done good.

This isn’t a music video for once - it’s just a proud promotion for my brother’s recent foray into the world of kinetic sculpture. His work is currently displayed at the Lisk Gallery in Boise, and if you live anywhere near that area you should go check it out. (Also, take a look at his other shiny stuff by visiting Matt Grover Design. He’s awesome. Seriously.)

“July” - Youth Lagoon

As a previous Boise resident of some 18 years, I’m immensely proud of Youth Lagoon. It’s so nice to have something musical to talk about there other than Built to Spill.

“Montana” - Youth Lagoon

I just found out two things about Trevor Powers (aka Youth Lagoon) today.

1) He went to Boise State University, which is the college I just graduated from this last spring.

2) You can stream his new album, The Year of Hibernation, over at Spin.

To be perfectly honest, I think I only started liking Youth Lagoon because of this video, but Powers’ particular brand of deliberately-paced beats, dreamy guitars, and hazy vocals are now indelibly melded with Tyler T. Williams’ beautiful little short film in my mind.
